  • Furniture - If you have practical skills, creativity and a desire to learn wood craftmanship, a career in furniture design and make could be right for you.
  • Upholstery: Our part-time upholstery courses are ideal if you are keen to explore or develop your upholstery skills in our specialist workshops.


With our programmes, you can progress all the way from Level 1 (equivalent to GCSEs in grades D-F or 3-1) to university level. This could lead you to exciting careers in:

Rycotewood Furniture Centre has been educating students in the design and craft of fine furniture since 1937, with many of our former students achieving great career success. 

Our internationally renowned workshop boasts specialist equipment and state of the art facilities and a team of highly experienced teachers who will prepare you for industry success.

Student success

Our students regularly receive awards in recognition of the high standard of their creative skills and craftmanship. Awards include: the City & Guilds Medal of Excellence, the Alan Peters Award and Mixology designer of the year. 

Industry partnerships

Our extensive network or partnerships will help you develop invaluable skills and experience.

We work with many furniture manufacturers, including live design briefs with Ercol and William Hands, so you have an opportunity to get feedback from the professionals on your work. Our annual employers' day and end of year exhibition are also excellent opportunities to network with potential employers.
