Sam is studying Level 3 Business and Accounting at Banbury and Bicester College, part of Activate Learning. He chose the college because it was local, and it was offering the accounting courses he wanted to do.
Sam said: ‘I’ve always been interested in accounting. My uncle owns an accountancy firm. I knew that, if you want to work in business, you need the back up qualifications.
Sam said: ‘I chose this course because it interests me and was relevant to what I want to do. It is really practical and it has helped me boost my skills, including, for example, communication skills. We worked together as a team during the first few weeks to help raise money for Katharine House Hospice, a local hospice, through the Karcher Accumulator Challenge.
‘I am currently working for an accountancy firm two days a week. When I graduate, I want to complete the Chartered Accountancy training, which is four years, combining full-time work and training.
‘Being at college helped me get a work experience placement with local firm Whitley Stimpson. After two weeks’ work experience, they approached me to provide some paid work. I am currently working for them two days a week.’
