Flexible learning and support

Finding the time to learn the skills and knowledge you need to progress your career can be difficult. Online learning means that you can study flexibly, at times to suit you and your lifestyle. As a one-year programme, it also means that you will be ready for university in less time than if you followed the traditional A-level route.

Throughout your time on the programme, we will provide support through a personal tutor and online tutorials, as well as through our telephone hotline, open Monday–Friday from 9am–5pm.

We will work with you to develop a study plan so that you can meet coursework deadlines and schedule study time around your other responsibilities.

Do I already need to have academic qualifications?

To be eligible for a place on an Access to HE Online programme, you must have GCSE English and maths grade 4 (C equivalent) or above, or a Functional Skills Level 2 qualification.

As this is an online course, it is not possible to study maths and/or English at an Activate Learning college alongside the main qualification.

How much does it cost and is there funding available?

If you are aged 19 and over, and want to study a Level 3–6 course, you are eligible to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover your tuition fees. The loans are not means-tested or subject to credit checks and you start repaying it when you earn over £25,000 per year.

The 19+ Advanced Learner Loan is easy to apply for and is not dependent on your household income. To be eligible to apply for it, you need to:

  • Be aged 19 or over at the start of your course
  • Start your course on or after 1 August 2016
  • Have lived in the UK, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man for three years immediately before the start of your course
  • Study an eligible course at Level 3 and above at an approved college or training provider in England. Approved courses include: A-levels, Access to HE diplomas, other diplomas and certificates

For more information regarding eligibility criteria, please visit www.gov.uk/advanced-learning-loans. General tuition fees for Access courses are as follows:

How do I apply?

If you are ready to apply, you can complete the online application form from the course pages linked above. Alternatively, you can contact our friendly team to find out more:

Following the Access Diploma, I went on to study a midwifery degree, became a registered midwife for the NHS, and now have my own practice and teach others. I couldn’t have done any of this without my Access qualification."
