Business and enterprise

Business skills are key to the success of thousands of organisations.

Business skills lie at the heart of success for thousands of organisations across the UK – and many more internationally

Our business and enterprise programmes can help you develop your expertise and get ready for a successful career in this booming industry.

With our business and enterprose programmes, the focus is on applying your learning to the real world. You will work on projects that challenge you and develop the soft skills that employers are looking for: teamwork, communication and problem solving.

Recent projects have included planning and delivering a fundraising programme for a local hospice, designing a new travel scheme for young people for a local bus company and developing a brand strategy for a national charity. By working with external organisations and employers, you will get a real flavour of the realities of working in business.

Subjects available

  • Business and enterprise - Learn how businesses operate and get the skills to develop, manage and support successful businesses.

Qualifications available

Business and enterprise qualifications are available from Level 1 (equivalent to a GCSE grades D-F or 3-1) up to higher education where we have a Business and Enterprise Foundation Degree and BA (Hons) Top up year, accredited by Oxford Brookes University. At Business Level 3, you will have the option to select specialisms in Human Resources, Marketing, Finance and Entrepreneurship.

Many of our subjects are taught in the classroom. However, this curriculum is enriched with a variety of external trips and visits to college from employers and universities. You will hear from guest speakers on a range of areas and you will also take part in work experience throughout your programme, helping you build the skills and confidence to launch your career

Career pathways

A career pathway is a plan, with clear, practical steps you can take to achieve the career of your dreams. This will help equip you with the skills, attributes and knowledge that future employers want, giving you a greater chance of success.

Our career pathway maps will show you the best routes through college, higher education and employment and into the most popular industry sectors.

Industry partnerships

We work closely with partner organisations such as Webexpenses, Siemens Healthineers and Penningtons Manches, a leading law firm, as well as Experience Oxfordshire, Oxfordshire Community and Voluntary Action (OCVA), to help you gain a flavour of the realities on working in business.

This means you will have the opportunity to work in projects set by employers, to take part in work experience opportunities and to listen to business guest speakers as part of your programme. One major project is the Karcher Accumulator Challenge, a competition our business students take part in each year to raise money for a local hospice, the Katharine House Hospice.
