Welcome back to the Head of Campus - Student Experience update.
I have been so delighted with the amazing response to our student Christmas Shoebox Appeal which supports our students in financial hardship. There has been a hive of activity on the campus as our Lifeskills students supported with making the Christmas boxes, Childcare students collecting and creating gifts and each day my office has been filled with generous donations of stationery, clothing, toiletries, games, accessories, make up, hair products, sweets and selection boxes. Thanks goes to Beauty Banks and Tesco for also supporting our appeal.
I also want to take the chance to introduce our new free eBook and audiobook service called BorrowBox. Students can now borrow eBooks and audiobooks, all they need to do is register, download the app and select ‘Activate Learning Group’, sign in with their Activate Learning log on and they can start downloading, reading and listening. I have used it myself during lockdown and it is a brilliant service.
I have seen some great practical lessons over the last couple of weeks, which really showcased the students’ skills development despite the challenges faced due to Covid-19 restrictions. I have watched art and design students working on a natural environment theme; carpentry learners making joints; animal management students looking after finches in the new aviary and our Lifeskills students kindly decorating the college reception with our Christmas tree. I also got to watch the hairdressing students creating Grinch inspired looks, including some tough colouring techniques and lots of hairspray!
I want to remind parents and students that the UCAS deadline is fast approaching on 15 January 2021. Our Careers teams is still offering 15-minute sessions to review personal statements before submission for those choosing a university progression route.
I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your support over what has been a challenging year and to tell you how inspired I am by your ability to develop some of the core attributes of resilience, confidence and professionalism despite Covid-19.
On behalf of Banbury and Bicester College and Activate Learning, I wish you all a restful and safe festive break and look forward to returning in 2021 with more exciting news.
We are changing the way that we inform you about COVID-19 cases on campus as we recognise that people might want to be able to access the information for themselves, rather than relying on us sending the information to you. We will now be updating our COVID-19 pages to show you the total number of cases by campus and the number of cases in the past week, broken down by staff and student.
