Bracknell and Wokingham College hosted an inspirational and educational one day event for hairdressing, beauty therapy and media make up students on Wednesday 2 October.
The Concept Hair and Beauty Education Roadshow took place for the first time at the Church Road campus, offering a unique opportunity for the next generation to connect with industry-leading brands and professionals from across the country.
Students studying hairdressing, beauty therapy and media make up at colleges from across the group including Banbury and Bicester College, Bracknell and Wokingham College, Guildford College and Reading College and University Centre, journeyed to the Bracknell campus for an insightful day.
During the first section of the event, students could speak to different hairdressing and beauty brands at their stands where they could ask them questions, try out different products and see mini product and technique demonstrations, have hair and beauty treatments, take part in competitions and collect product samples.
Later, educators, influencers and professional hairdressers from hairdressing brands including Crazy Color, Diva Pro Styling, Denham International, Indola, L’Oréal Professional, Matrix and Wella Professional, talked about their career journeys, gave advice, answered questions from students and demonstrated the latest professional hair products and techniques to all the students and staff who attended the event.
Representatives from Beauty Triangle International, Gelish and Morgan Taylor also had stands at the event.
Tamara Kasander is studying a Women’s Hairdressing Level 2 Diploma at Bracknell and Wokingham College.
She said: “It was really educational and inspirational. I really liked talking to the ladies from Wella Professional about how to get work experience as they encouraged me to never give up and keep going for opportunities.”
Michelle Messenger, Hairdressing Teacher at Activate Learning, said: “The Concept Hair and Beauty Education Roadshow was a great experience for the learners and tutors. It was like a mini trade show where students were able to interact with different brands.
“The educators’ demonstrations were very exciting and interesting, which kept the students engaged and gave them insight into the latest professional products, techniques and different individuals’ career journeys.”
Jack Barney, Assistant Regional Education Developer, Matrix, said: “It’s good to get into the soul of the colleges, as they are the future talent coming up into the industry.
“It was nice to get involved and speak to the students about what opportunities are out there for them, whether that’s becoming a hairdresser, artist or an educator.”
Speaking on the day of the event, Sam Cole, Event Manager, Concept Hair Magazine, said: “Today we saw all the hairdressing, beauty therapy and media make up students from Activate Learning come together for a day of inspirational hair and beauty artistry to help all of them enhance their chosen career in their chosen industries.
“It was fantastic to see so many students getting involved who were really engaged to get involved and ask questions.
“Each of the brands gave the students hands-on kinaesthetic learning opportunities with the products to help them learn about different first-class products and techniques to help support, encourage and inspire the next generation of hair and beauty professionals.”
