Shining a spotlight on young people gaining skills

Colleges Week, a national campaign led by the Association of Colleges (AoC), is a celebration of the transformational role further education plays across the UK.

We’re proud to shine a spotlight on the life-changing opportunities we provide at Activate Learning, with today’s theme inviting us to celebrate our 16-18-year-olds developing vocational and academic skills.

For young people, choosing college is a powerful step towards independence, confidence and career success.

Academic and vocational routes for everyone

Our GCSEs and A Levels programmes provide young people with the opportunity to gain the qualifications they need, so they can progress on their careers or access higher education programmes.

Vocational education is about learning (and developing confidence) by doing. It’s about stepping into workshops, labs, studios and training kitchens and building the technical ability and professional behaviours that shape successful careers.

Students gain hands-on experience in professional-standard facilities, guided by expert tutors with real industry experience. Whether pursuing engineering, construction, health and social care, business, creative arts or hospitality, among many others, learners develop practical and transferable skills that employers truly value.

Our approach focuses on building confidence, resilience and ambition. Students are encouraged to think creatively, solve problems and work collaboratively, skills that are essential in today’s fast-moving economy.

For many young people, college becomes the place where they discover their strengths, define their goals and realise what they’re capable of achieving.

Activate Learning’s role in our communities

During Colleges Week, we celebrate not only the achievements of students but also the dedication of staff and employer partners who make this success possible.

We recognise the role Activate Learning plays in strengthening local communities, supporting regional economies and opening doors for the next generation of skilled professionals.
