The students responded to a Facebook post asking for members of the community to volunteer to decorate a board for Dinton Pastures’ Christmas trail.

The students who are all studying a Foundation Creative Crafts Pathway at the college on King’s Road created a present-themed wooden board.

Ashleigh Warner, 17, from Woodley, is one of the students who worked on the project.

She said: “We wanted to create different aspects in the painting to express our different types of artwork that we enjoy making. We used different techniques and made a 3D painting.

“We used bright colours on the inside of the present and added a nice bright black border to make it pop.

“On the present, we added the college name and the Activate Learning logo, so everyone knows we made it, and hopefully it’ll inspire some more people to have a look at the college.”

Schools, organisations and other community groups were all asked to contribute a Christmas-themed wooden board to the trail, which will run every weekend in December as part of Dinton Pastures’ Christmas celebrations.

Ashleigh added: “It helped us to improve our communication and work well as a team. It was nice to be able to dedicate a few days to one piece of art, too.”

Jo Prior, Work Experience Coordinator at Activate Learning, said: “This was a perfect opportunity to allow the foundation students to use their artistic skills and for their work to be out in the community. This also worked well for some project-based learning for their experience of work.”

Lacy Savage, Sales & Events Coordinator: Commercialisation at Wokingham Borough Council, said: “At Dinton Pastures, we are delighted to welcome Reading College and University Centre to our growing list of participating schools and colleges in this year’s Festive Art Trail.

“The trail, running every weekend in December, is a real highlight for families and the wider community.

“The students at Reading College have gone above and beyond with a truly standout board, and we’re excited to showcase more of their fantastic artwork around the park in future trails and projects.”
