High Sheriff of Oxfordshire Mark Beard appointed as new Patron of Activate Rugby Academy 

Activate Learning is proud to announce that Mark Beard, the High Sheriff of Oxfordshire, has been appointed as the new Patron of the Activate Rugby Academy based out of its City of Oxford College. 

The Activate Rugby Academy is a dedicated rugby training programme for young players aged 16-18, providing them with the opportunity to combine academic studies with high-level rugby coaching.  

The academy has been producing talented players since its inception and has a reputation for excellence in both rugby and academic studies. 

An advocate for youth development and education in Oxfordshire

As the High Sheriff of Oxfordshire, Mark has been a strong advocate for youth development and education in the county, making him an ideal fit for the role of Patron of the Activate Rugby Academy. 

He said: “I am delighted to become the Patron of the Activate Rugby Academy. I have always been passionate about rugby and believe that sport can have a transformative impact on young people’s lives.  

“The academy provides an excellent opportunity for young players to develop their skills and achieve their academic goals and prepare them for the workplace. I look forward to supporting them in their journey.” 

As Patron, Mark Beard will be a figurehead for the academy, representing it at events and promoting its activities and achievements. He will also provide guidance and advice to the academy’s leadership team, helping to ensure that the academy continues to deliver the highest standards of coaching and academic provision.

To mark the occasion, Mark was presented with a special trophy made at the Rycotewood Furniture Centre at City of Oxford College, from oak wood that came from its sister college at Merrist Wood.

The Activate Rugby Academy has a strong track record of success, with several of its players going on to play for professional rugby teams or to pursue careers in related fields.
