Guildford College, part of Activate Learning, is proud to be hosting the Guildford Action Sleep Out 2025, an overnight community event taking place from 8pm on Friday 28 November to 6am on Saturday 29 November 2025.
The event, held on the outdoor grounds of Guildford College, brings together individuals, families, and local businesses to stand in solidarity with those experiencing homelessness in Guildford.
This year’s Sleep Out aims to raise awareness of the rising need in the local area while supporting the vital work of Guildford Action, including their Day Service and Action for Families programme.
Participants will sleep outdoors with access to indoor toilet facilities, and complimentary hot drinks will be served throughout the night.
Attendees will hear from Gary Headland DL, CEO of Activate Learning, and Joanne Tester, CEO of Guildford Action, as they discuss the challenges faced by people experiencing homelessness and explain how the community can make a meaningful difference through support and engagement.

Gary Headland said: “We are delighted that Guildford Action has asked us, for the second time, to host their sleepout fundraising event at Guildford College, one of Activate Learning’s eight college campuses in Surrey, Berkshire and Oxfordshire.
“I am pleased that I will be joined for the sleepout this year by Sue Sturgeon, the extraordinary Chair of Activate Learning, who is also a distinguished alumna, having studied her A Levels at Guildford College.
“I am also really proud of our staff who will be joining this sleepout, demonstrating yet again their selfless devotion to the communities we serve.
“Supporting this event matters deeply, as homelessness remains a pressing and often hidden issue across Surrey.
“Funds raised will help ensure that vulnerable individuals can access essential support, safe spaces, and life-changing services offered by Guildford Action – resources that make a real and immediate difference in people’s lives.”
While Guildford may be regarded as a prosperous borough, homelessness and housing insecurity are pressing realities here.
Guildford Action provides vital outreach, warm meals, emotional support, and practical guidance to those facing homelessness, financial hardship, social isolation, domestic abuse, or complex family needs.
The Sleep Out is open to participants aged 18 and over, or under-18s accompanied by a parent or guardian. Individuals, friends, corporate teams, and community groups are all encouraged to take part.
