Activate Learning students work largest work experience project in group’s history

At the end of the half term break, over 200 students across five Activate Learning colleges worked together to form the biggest college work experience project to date.

They had an incredible time supporting the festival and offered a host of exciting activities and experiences to the local community over the two days.

Here’s what our different colleges and their study programmes supported:

Merrist Wood College: 

🔒 Public services – shadowing, security and stewarding, ticket scanning, and handing out water bottles on site.
⚽ Sport – penalty shootout.
🐎 Equine and LAND – horseshoe painting, willow-weaving, pencil making and planting activities in the LAND area and Animal Management guided tours.

Guildford College:

💇‍♀️ Hairdressing and media make-up – festival styling and face painting in the Kids’ Zone.
🎥 Media – filming and editing promotional videos around the site.
🎨 Visual arts – art showcase and interactive screen printing
🎭 Performing arts – Two hours of 15-minute performances.
🛠️ Construction, electrical and plumbing – event setup including fencing, staging, and water points.

Farnham College:

🎨 A Level Creative- painting the Shynefest wooden letters.
✍️ A Level English – poetry writing workshops.

Reading College:

🎡 Business – traditional funfair games and more.
🎸 Music – Battle of the Bands.

Bracknell and Wokingham College:

🛠️ Carpentry – made the ShyneFest wooden letters.

 

A special shoutout to our Supported Learning students throughout the group for their amazing success in running the following activities:

🟢 The homemade stall – selling candles, tie-dye t-shirts, and tote bags.
🟢 Recycled clothing sale.
🟢 Glamping breakfast at Woodies.
🟢 Funfair games – splat the rat, coconut shy and hook a duck.
