HOW TO ENROL

Enrolment is your first step toward becoming part of the Activate Learning community. It’s more than just signing up, it's about unlocking opportunities for growth, exploration, and success. Here's how to get started on your journey!

WHAT IS ENROLMENT?

Enrolment is the first step toward becoming a student at Activate Learning.

Before you start college, we need to check the following:

  • your details are correct
  • we have offered you the right course
  • you meet the entry criteria for the course
  • you have a student ID card and lanyard

To do this, you need to complete an enrolment form, which will be assessed and processed by our Advice and Admissions Team.

Once we have done that, you’re ready to start learning!

RECEIVING AND COMPLETING YOUR ENROLMENT FORM

If you’re starting in September 2025, we'll send your enrolment form by email in the first two weeks of August.

If you’ve had an offer but not received an enrolment form by Friday 15 August, please get in touch using the Contact us page.

Complete your enrolment form as soon as you receive it to secure your place - even if you’re still waiting for exam results! Your place isn’t guaranteed until your enrolment form is fully processed and complete, and places are confirmed on a first-come, first-served basis.

KEY DATES FOR ENROLMENT:

  • Thursday 21 August - GCSE Results Day. Make sure you log back into your account and upload your GCSE results if your course has entry requirements linking to your qualifications.
  • Friday 22 August - College clearing starts. This is when we offer remaining places to new applicants. If you haven’t completed your enrolment form by then, your place could be given to someone else.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO COMPLETE YOUR ENROLMENT FORM

The enrolment form is a record of your personal details and information, and it must be completed by you, the learner. Don’t worry, you can get someone to support you, but you’ll need to sign the enrolment form at the end!

Here’s what you’ll need to have ready when completing your form:

  1. Personal details:
Your name, contact details, and other personal information.
  2. Previous education:
Information about your past education and copies of your qualifications.
  3. Proof of identity:
A valid ID (eg, passport or birth certificate).
  4. Right to study (if non-British):
Evidence of your immigration status and right to study in the UK (see our Right to Study Checks below).
  5. Emergency contact:
Details of someone we can contact in case of an emergency.
If you are under-18, we’ll ask for two emergency contacts for your records.
  6. Medical history and support needs:
Any relevant medical details or support requirements.
  7. Financial information (if applicable):
If your course has a fee, provide information to help us assess your eligibility for funding.
    • If an employer is paying for your qualification, we’ll require a headed letter with confirmation of this from the employer.
    • If you require an Advanced Learner Loan – we’ll need the application number for this.
  8. Student ID photo:
We need a passport-style photo for your student ID. You can upload one or take it using your computer’s webcam.

Make sure you have all these ready to make the process smooth and quick! If any of the required information is missing when you submit your enrolment form, it may cause delays in getting enrolled.

RIGHT-TO-STUDY CHECKS AT ACTIVATE LEARNING

Activate Learning is required by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) to conduct a right-to-study check on every student who is not a British, Irish, a Channel Islands or Isle of Man national. This check shows you have the right to study in the UK and at Activate Learning.

We must keep a copy of your documents and check regularly for any updates to your immigration status. The right-to-study check is done before your enrolment is finalised.

 Required documents:

  • You will need to provide copies of your immigration documents and passport.
  • The specific documents you must upload depend on the type of visa you hold or your immigration status in the UK.

Once your right-to-study check has been completed, you may enrol or re-enrol at Activate Learning. Your enrolment will be on hold until we complete your right-to-study check. Without this documentation, we can’t guarantee your place.

Non-UK/Irish nationals – We require the following documents:

  • Passport: A valid and in-date passport (not expired)
  • Visa or immigration documents: Depending on your visa type, you may need to provide:
    • Biometric Residence Permit (BRP): If you have one.
    • Share code: For those with digital immigration status (e.g., EU Settlement Scheme). Code needs to begin with a ‘S’.
    • Certificate of application: If your visa application is pending
    • If you have a dependent visa, you need to provide:
      • A copy of the passport of the person you depend on
      • If they are not a British citizen, you also need a copy of their visa or immigration status

UK and Irish Nationals – We will require the following documents:

  • Passport: Must be a valid British or Irish passport
  • Alternative documents: If you don't have a passport, you may need to provide a combination of documents such as a birth or adoption certificate, a current UK driving licence, and other official documents

I'VE COMPLETED MY ENROLMENT FORM, WHAT NEXT?

Once you’ve completed and submitted your enrolment form, you’ll see a confirmation message, but please note that your enrolment is not yet confirmed at this point.

If any information is missing from your form, we’ll get in touch via email to ask you to provide the necessary details. After that, we’ll send you an enrolment confirmation email, usually within five working days.

If you are waiting for exam results, this confirmation email will be sent after 21 August 2025. Please remember that you are not officially confirmed as a student until you receive this email and cannot attend lessons until this is confirmed.

If there are any fees to pay, the confirmation email will include the details, along with instructions on how to make the payment. You can also find more information on payment options on our Fees and How to Pay page.

For information to help you prepare for starting college – have a look at our Starting your course page for more information.

WILL I HAVE TO PAY FOR MY COURSE?

At Activate Learning, we believe cost shouldn’t be a barrier to education. There are different funding options depending on your age, course type, and personal circumstances:

  • If you're aged 16–18 (as of 31 August 2025):
It’s unlikely you’ll need to pay any tuition fees for our programmes. There may be some small additional costs for things like materials, trips, or kit to support your learning — but we keep these to a minimum. You may be eligible for a bursary, find out more on the Financial Support and Bursaries page.
  • If you're an adult learner (full- and part-time courses):
You’ll usually need to pay course fees, but you may:
    • Be eligible for part funding
    • Be able to pay in instalments
  • If you're studying an undergraduate or professional course:
Course fees apply, but you may:
    • Be eligible for part funding
    • Be able to pay in instalments
    • Apply for a Government Advanced Learner Loan to spread the cost
    • Ask your employer to help cover the fees

For more details and personalised advice, please get in touch. You can also find more information on our Fees and How to Pay page.

The cost of your course will be assessed during the enrolment process, and we’ll let you know about any fees before your enrolment is confirmed.

CHANGED YOUR MIND OR THINGS DIDN’T GO AS PLANNED?

We’re here to help you explore your options!

If you applied for a course with us and didn’t achieve the grades you were expecting, don’t worry. Our specialist Admissions Advisors will review your details and work with our faculties to see if we can adjust the level of the course you applied for.

If a transfer is possible, we’ll email you to confirm that your course has been updated to the appropriate level.

If things haven’t gone as planned, you can also visit us at one of our Clearing sessions, available after GCSE results day. These sessions give you the chance to discuss available courses and secure a place on courses where places are still open.

Please note that all places are offered on a first-come, first-served basis, and your place will be confirmed once your enrolment is fully processed. We recommend seeing us as soon as possible to ensure you don’t miss out – have a look at our College Clearing page for more information.
