John Cope

John has worked in politics and education for the last ten years and is currently Deputy Director of Public First, which specialises in education policy and research. Originally from the Midlands, John previously worked with employers across the UK as head of education at the CBI and chairing their LGBT+ Network; before which he advised three past education ministers and was a founding director of an education and mental health research institute. Outside of work, John is the governor of a special needs secondary school, member of the Pearson Editorial Board and the Education Policy Institute Board, alongside being Deputy National Chair of LGBT+ Conservatives.

John is guided by the belief that potential is equally distributed, but opportunity is not, with a rigorous education able to make sure every young person gets the best start in life – regardless of background.
