Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
At Activate Learning, matters of equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) are everyone’s business and everyone’s responsibility.
EDI at Activate Learning
At Activate Learning, we believe that education is a universal right which leads to opportunities to thrive and create positive change in the world. Decades of research show the importance of inclusion in achieving the best possible outcomes in education, safeguarding and wellbeing. Our Learning Philosophy and employment ethos prioritise safety and belonging.
We care deeply about what we do. For us, inclusion goes beyond meeting legal requirements and Ofsted guidelines; our strategy, vision, purpose and values place equality, diversity and inclusion at the heart of how we operate, and we are striving to become industry leaders in creating fairer, safer, more diverse and inclusive education and employment for all.
We’re proud to provide education and employment to everyone, including, significantly, some of the most marginalised people in our communities. It is our privilege to be the chosen education provider for many marginalised and vulnerable students, including those who are disabled and neurodivergent, those who have accessed social care, those who are seeking asylum and refuge in the UK, those who are part of the Trans+ community, and those who are experiencing poverty in the counties in which we operate.
Today and always:
• Whatever your physical and mental health, we welcome you.
• Whatever your ethnicity and heritage, we welcome you.
• Whatever your gender and sex, we welcome you.
• Whatever your sexual orientation, we welcome you.
• Whatever your economic situation, we welcome you.
• Whatever your religion or beliefs, we welcome you.
• Whatever your neurodivergence and disabilities, we welcome you.
• Whatever your age, we welcome you.
• Whether you’re someone who’s accessed social care, a parent, caregiver or a carer, we welcome you.
• Whatever your education and career ambitions, and whatever your education and employment background, we welcome you.
We welcome you as you are, and we support your rights to safety, dignity and equality.
In challenging times, we know that unity is what keeps us strong and collectively working towards our shared goals in learning, developing and thriving as people and professionals. Diversity, the celebration that everyone is unique with their own perspectives on the world, and our ability to work together and learn from each other, has brought us new knowledge that has progressed our societies. Diverse knowledge helps us to live longer, healthier lives, and has evolved our approach to everyday living. Diversity is a cornerstone of educational progress, and it benefits everyone. In short, diversity in education, both in the workplace and in our student body, has the power to transform lives.
We value everyone, and we believe that inclusion is everyone’s right and responsibility. We recognise that we have work to do to make sure that everybody at our organisation feels that they belong and that they are experiencing equality. We’re committed to becoming an anti-discriminatory organisation by putting in the work to make Activate Learning a fairer, safer organisation for everyone.
We act with trust and integrity, and we’re committed to holding ourselves accountable, taking our words from paper to practice, to achieve equality in education and employment. Our ambitious and forward-thinking approach embodies the ethos of the Association of Colleges Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) charter.
You can find out more about the work we’ve done so far in our EDI Annual Report, the work we’re committed to doing to meet our legal obligations in our EDI policy, and the work we’re doing to strive towards best practice in our EDI SMART Objectives Report. If there are things you feel that we could be doing differently, we’d be delighted to hear from you.
Whatever your identities and experiences, you deserve to feel seen, respected and celebrated in education, employment and beyond, and if you connect with Activate Learning, we are committed to making that your reality.
