Why Speak Up Speak Out matters: A message for students

Everyone deserves to feel safe, respected and supported, whether that’s at college, in the workplace, online and beyond. This is central to our Safe Students, Safe Staff, Safe Spaces approach at college.

Our Speak Up Speak Out campaign (SuSo) is here to help raise awareness around serious topics like peer pressure, consent, and sexual harassment and abuse. It gives you the tools to understand what’s okay (and what’s not), how to stay safe, support others and where to go for help.

You can access the SuSo content on your ALO dashboard. From the Student Support Hub, select the Speak Up Speak Out button available on the landing page:

These cover real-life topics such as:

  • What’s OK and what’s not: Understanding sexual harassment, violence and abuse
  • When friends cross the line: Harmful behaviour between peers
  • Consent, boundaries and healthy relationships
  • Staying safe online
  • Challenging gender stereotypes and toxic norms
  • Being a bystander: How to speak up and support others
  • Knowing your rights: The law, myths and safety
  • Support services and looking after your wellbeing.

New videos in the Speak Up Speak Out section on ALO

Activate Learning has teamed up with Peerscroller to create bite-sized videos made by young people, for young people.

These are quick to watch and packed with helpful, real-world info. You’ll find them in the Speak Up Speak Out section of the Student Support Hub on ALO. Click on the Peerscroller icon.
