Why should I study a public services qualification at Activate Learning?

Interested in a public services qualification but looking to find out a little bit more about the subject?

The public services sector offers a variety of exciting careers in a range of rewarding fast-paced and community-focused roles.

What public services courses do we offer?

At Activate Learning, you can study a public services qualification from Level 1 up to Level 3.

There is a course to suit everyone, no matter what stage you are at in your learning. Public services courses include:

  • Public Services Level 1 Diploma – suitable for students with a basic level or reading, writing and maths
  • Public Services Level 2 Certificate – suitable for students with four GCSEs at grade 3, including English and maths
  • Public Services Level 3 Diploma – suitable for students with four GCSEs at grade 4-9, including English and maths

What if I don’t have English or maths?

Do not panic! You can study GCSE English and maths alongside your qualification. The tutor will discuss your options at interview.

What job can I get with a public services qualification?

You can progress to a variety of careers with a Public Services qualifications. These could include careers in the:

  • British Army
  • Royal Air Force
  • Royal Navy
  • Royal Marines
  • Police force
  • Fire and rescue service
  • Ambulance service
  • HM Prison Service

What makes the course at Activate Learning so unique?

All of our employer partners help to create our courses to ensure we cater for the skills, knowledge and expertise that employers are looking for.

We are lucky to have industry partnerships with lots of major employers within the public services sector.

These partnerships help expose students to real-life working situations that support their learning and prepare them for the workplace. Examples of these partnerships in action include:

  • Working with the British Army to ensure students are achieving the correct fitness levels for their Career Employment group.
  • Working with the Navy who run mock psychometric tests to gauge the level of understanding students have.
  • Working with the Royal Air Force for units such as teamwork and discipline, putting their own theme to the activities.
  • Working with Security HM Prison and Probation service to allow students to visit prisons to demonstrate how they work in the ‘real world’.

What work experience will I get?

Students on the public services course get to take part in a range of exciting work placements. Previous work placements have included:

  • Royal Air Force (RAF Benson and RAF Brize Norton)
  • Thames Valley Fire and Rescue
  • Thames Valley Police
