National award winners Activate Learning to share best practice on supporting SEND students

A free workshop for education providers on how to support students with special educational needs and disability (SEND) into employment.

27 August 2019

Further Education colleges from the Thames Valley and beyond will be attending a free best practice workshop on 26 September at Activate Learning’s Reading campus to learn more about supporting students with special educational needs and disability (SEND).
The best practice workshop follows on from Activate Learning’s win in the Association of College’s Beacon Awards Support for Students category.
The prestigious national award, which was presented at an event in London in March, recognised the work across Activate Learning’s colleges in Reading, Oxford and Banbury, where we  work with partners to improve life chances and create sustainable job opportunities for students with learning difficulties or disabilities.
Since launching in 2013, the programme has supported over 1500 Berkshire and Oxfordshire SEND learners with work experience.
The best practice event has been organised as part of Activate Learning’s commitment to showcase this work.
Attendees will get the chance to meet students, discuss project aims and outcomes and visit the onsite learning companies – where students gain experience in real-life work settings.
Our aim is to give others the tools and knowledge to replicate our groundbreaking programme at their own colleges and to support even more young people with special needs.
