Activate Apprenticeships attended the WorldSkills UK Live in Birmingham NEC last month, the UK's biggest skills, apprenticeships and careers event.
Pablo Lloyd, Chief Executive of Activate Apprenticeships comments on the annual three-day festival:
"I went to WorldSkills UK Live in Birmingham NEC the day after our team day. This is the annual UK final for 56 skills competitions, among 500 young people competing to be the UK's best - competing in everything from jewellery making to beauty therapy. From here, Team UK us chosen to compete in next year’s global finals in Kazan, Russia. It is also the biggest careers event in the UK.
“Activate Apprenticeships were running the customer service competition. Rafal Witczak, Craig Carden and Steph Graham from our team organised two sets of competitors over two days, with actors playing the challenging customers. The gold, silver and bronze winners were chosen by the team and the winners collected their medals at the closing ceremony on 16 November.
“During the competitions, 70,000 school and college students visited Birmingham NEC to see vocational skills at the highest level. Careers advisors and ‘have a go’ stands gave young people more information and experience.
“The competitors really pushed themselves, handling difficult calls under pressure and presenting a solution to a customer service challenge. It reminded me of a quote from Professor Eddie Obeng,'If you feel comfortable doing something at work, it's probably pointless or obsolete'. Google him, he is full of challenging ideas."
WorldsSkills UK LIVE will return to Birmingham NEC in 2019.
