Staff from Reading walk to raise funds for Buscot Neonatal Unit

06 December 2017

On December 3rd, Nicola Fowler (Lecturer), Jihan Al-Dibouni (Lecturer), Sophia Augustus (Creative Arts Study Coach) and a personal friend of Nicola’s walked five miles in Oxford to fundraise for the neonatal unit’s charity ‘Bibs - Babies in Buscot Support’.

The walk was organised as a thank you to the unit, for caring and saving the life of Nicola’s baby Hudson, who was born spontaneously 13 weeks early in the Spring and spent 10 weeks on the ward.

The charity fundraise for essential medical equipment such as, incubators and resuscitation equipment, a Family Support Practitioner for parents of premature and sick babies and the refurbishment of a family room and several flats on the ward for parents to stay with their babies when they are close to discharge.

So far the walk has raised over £600, however Bibs are currently fundraising for new incubators to replace two that are over 20 years old and this will cost £80,000. So any donations no matter how big or small will be greatly appreciated!

When 10% of babies are born prematurely and full term babies sometimes require extra help when they are first born, the unit is saving lives on a daily basis.
