Starting in September?

We know it’s only June, but it’s never too early to start getting ready for college.

Do you know what you need to prepare for college? Got your money sorted? Worried about making friends?
Don't worry: we'll help you get everything ready before you start college with us.

"I don't know where anything is on campus."

If you haven’t been to one of our Open Events yet, come along to one this summer! Chat to our tutors and take a tour of the classrooms, canteen, shops, gym, salon and all the other facilities before you join us. Once you've had the grand tour, you're almost set; you'll start to feel more confident and feel at home once you're familiar with your surroundings.

"I haven't got any friends who are going to the same college!"

There's a lot to take in when you first start with us and a lot of new faces: more than 700 people applied to an Activate Learning college following one Open Event! Coupled with all the new tutors and other staff then that is a lot of new people to meet!

However, bear in mind that everyone else is in the same boat and probably thinking the exact same thing as you: "how am I going to meet people and make new friends?". Well, we've got you covered with our Welcome Week activities in the first week of July and offer a fantastic Student's Union at all campuses.

When you enrol on an Activate Learning programme, you'll be invited to one of our Student Welcome Days. After you get your login details and password in your offer letter, please click on the link below for your campus to register:

Welcome Week hosts a variety of interactive sessions and icebreaker activities at our colleges. Just bring along a big smile and plenty of enthusiasm! You'll make a load of new friends before you start your programme in September.

There are also opportunities to meet new people when you start studying, within your tutor group, classes and societies. If you're still feeling shy or anxious, you can always speak to one of our Student Support team.

"I have to pay for my course and I'm worried about money."

If you have money concerns before you start, we have an array of bursaries available for eligible students. Check out our Funding page for more info. Also, be sure to speak to our Advice and Admissions team when you come to collect your lanyard.

We also offer a variety of student support and learning support services. So, if you have any problems or concerns at all, just let us know. We are there to support your experience at college every step of the way.

"What do I do on my first day?"

On your first day with us in September, please report to reception and your tutor will meet you there. You will need a pen and notepad for your first day. Oh, and don’t forget to bring some money for lunch or pack your own! We have cafes, canteens and restaurants onsite if you are feeling peckish.

Finally, we’d like to wish you the best of luck in your GCSE examinations! We can’t wait to meet you this September and if you have any questions not answered above, please get in touch with our Advice and Admissions team. They will be more than happy to help!
