Exploring XR Technologies at Activate Learning
“XR” stands for “eXtended Reality” and is the catch-all term for an array of technologies that look to change the way in which we interact with information.
XR at Activate Learning embraces the following technologies: Virtual Reality (VR); Augmented Reality (AR); Mixed Reality (MR); and Immersive Rooms.
- Virtual Reality (VR) offers immersive learning experiences by transporting students to different environments through their headset, such as historical sites or scientific labs, increasing engagement and retention through hands-on experiences. Available at all campuses.
- Augmented Reality (AR) overlays digital content onto the real world, enhancing learning experiences by providing interactive and immersive visual aids for subjects like science, history, and engineering. Available at all campuses.
- Mixed Reality (XR) combines elements of both AR and VR, allowing students to interact with both physical and digital objects in real-time, enhancing practical learning and collaboration. Available at all campuses.
- Immersive technologies use specially outfitted classrooms to provide multisensory and interactive environments, supporting learning and simulation in novel ways. Available at Bracknell & Wokingham College, Guildford College, and Reading College.
