Hairdressing and barbering

Develop the technical skills you need to thrive in this creative industry.

Train in hairdressing and barbering at our industry salons. Initially, you will learn styling, treatment application, dressing, shampooing, conditioning and colouring skills.

You will gain a broad set of hairdressing skills – as well as functional skills in English, maths or ICT. You will also gain wider personal development skills, vital for success in further study or employment. These skills will include self-confidence, working with others, taking responsibility and time management.

As you progress, you will learn – and develop – advanced hairdressing techniques, so you can work in a commercial salon without supervision. With an apprenticeship in hair, you will learn about a range of hairdressing and barbering aspects, such as: hygiene, giving client consultations, cutting hair and trimming and shaping facial hair, as well as core customer service skills

You will learn the skills and knowledge to progress to a range of exciting careers including:

  • teacher/ trainer/ assessor
  • front of house colleague
  • salon manager
  • creative director

Qualifications

We offer qualifications in hair and beauty from Level 1 (equivalent to GCSEs grades D-F or 3-1) to Level 3 (equivalent to A-levels). Hair and make up artistry qualifications are at Level 3.

Facilities

Our commercial salons offer you the opportunity to learn the ropes of salon management. The working environment is exactly like that you will find in other commercial salons, featuring hair washing and hair cutting stations and relaxing beauty therapy rooms.

You will have the opportunity to serve paying customers who need a range of treatments. You will develop your technical and employability skills by taking part in work experience at our salons.
