The construction industry employs around 1.1 million people - prepare for the exciting opportunities ahead with one of our programmes. 

You will learn alongside industry experts and build a successful career in the construction industry with us. You will gain and develop the vital skills to work and flourish in the construction and brickwork industry. 

You will build on your practical skills, as well as deepening your knowledge of the construction industry. As you advance, you will you will develop the expertise and knowledge required to enter the industry at an advanced stage, or to progress to university to prepare for a career on construction management.

With a focus on brickwork, you will learn about design, valuation and use, construction and different job roles. The programme also covers the impact of the built environment. You will continue to develop your skills and knowledge and work on bigger, practical projects and more advanced theory. The course includes setting out and arch projects and as you advance, will feature complex masonry structures and supervisory roles in construction.

Subjects

  • Construction: Prepare for a career in the construction industry and explore the job opportunities available in the built environment with this programme.
  • Bricklaying: Gain a broad understanding of all aspects of building and construction. You will develop key bricklaying skills, such as: measuring, estimating, drawing out plans and laying bricks and blocks to build large brickwork structures. You will also get craft training in the construction industry.

Qualifications

We offer qualifications from Level 1 (equivalent to GCSEs, grades D-F or 3-1) to Level 3 (equivalent to A-levels). 

Facilities

You will learn through a combination of both practical and theory work in our industry standard workshops and classrooms. Facilities include the amazing Technology Campus in Blackbird Leys (Oxford), opened in 2016 following an £8m investment to create dedicated facilities for engineering, construction and building services.

Student success

There is a skills shortage in the construction and building services industry, with hands on, exciting career opportunities available when you complete your programme. 

John Vinner studied a Level 2 apprenticeship in Brickwork with a local brickwork company, which employed him upon completion. John learnt useful skills, including how to build corners and the importance of punctuality and communication skills. He is now making a good living and planning his career move into property development in the future. 

Industry partnerships

Our construction students work on projects set by employers to develop the skills, knowledge and attitude needed for industry success. Recent projects include:

  • Designing a new roundabout junction set by engineering company Skanska, to accommodate increased traffic and pedestrian needs
  • Creating a pre-tender package for a new science park in partnership with mentors from Beard Construction.
