The College Nursery

The College Nursery offers a friendly and caring environment in bright, modern facilities for children.

We aim to work in partnership with parents to provide the best possible care for children while they are with us, and a sound basis for their future education. The nursery was Ofsted rated ‘good’ in its most recent inspection (2018).

About Us

The College Nursery is part of the Activate Learning group, based at the Bracknell and Wokingham College Coopers Hill site, and aims to provide an environment where children can flourish and reach their full potential.

We provide flexible childcare for up to 57 children a day, from three months old until they enter full time education. We take children of the staff and students at Activate Learning colleges and then children from the wider community. We are registered to take children who are in receipt of two-year-old funding and the 15 and 30 hours funding for children who are aged over three years. Please read our prospectus for more information or visit www.childcarechoices.gov.uk to check your eligibility.

Why Choose The College Nursery?

Our team of experienced staff work in partnership with parents to provide the best possible care for children while they are with us and very much welcome you to share in your child’s learning journey. With each child allocated a keyperson, you can be confident that we will work with you to ensure your child’s physical, social and emotional needs are met.

We recognise that each child’s development is individual and place great importance on really knowing them well. This includes their learning styles, preferences and interests so that we can support them in developing their potential at their own pace.

The College Nursery has a range of facilities to aid your child’s learning and to stimulate all-round development, including a sensory room. During half terms we also run a holiday club from Tuesday to Friday.

FAQs

Are parents able to hang up coats/bags or do we need to drop off at the door?

We will not be allowing parents into the setting and ask that parents drop off at the main door, a staff member will hand over with the parent and take each child into the nursery. Staff will help to wash each child’s hands before taking them into their room.

Do staff plan to wear PPE such as masks or goggles?

Staff will not be wearing masks or goggles, unless in exceptional circumstances where a child or adult displays Coronavirus symptoms. If this does occur, we will wait for a parent to collect their child in a designated isolation room and will wear a face mask and protective eye shield. Staff will continue to use the usual PPE, such as aprons and gloves while carrying out personal care with the children.

Do you offer any settling-in sessions?

Yes, we recommend at least two short visits prior to starting, however this is very flexible and depends on your child. Generally, the first visit is one where the parent stays on site and completes some paperwork with a staff member.  During the second visit we encourage parents to leave their child for a short time, usually for around 1 hour.  You will be given the opportunity to talk to a staff member at any time to ask any questions.

Do you provide food?

Milk or water and a healthy snack are offered mid-morning and mid-afternoon, in line with our healthy eating policy. If your child attends between 11.45am – 12.30pm and/or 4.00pm to 5.00pm please supply them with a packed lunch and/or tea in a labelled container.

How do I apply?

If you would like to enrol your child into the centre, please complete the registration, medical and agreement form and either email, post or drop the form in to our centre. Please see our contact details below.

How many children will you be taking from September?

From September 2020 we are hoping to welcome all children back to the nursery. There will be fewer resources than before. For example, we will not have sand, playdough, sensory resources that children need to share, and there will be fewer toys as staff will ensure every item has been cleaned once touched. We will use the outdoor space as much as possible, dependent on the weather.

How will you console children if they are upset?

We will not expect children to socially distance from each other or the adults looking after them. If a child becomes upset, we will comfort them the same way as we would before the Coronavirus outbreak. The adults will socially distance from each other as much as possible.

Is it possible to arrange a tour of the nursery?

At present, due to current guidelines, we must restrict the number of adults visiting the nursery and are not conducting tours.  As soon as it is safe to do so, tours will resume. Please view our virtual tour and feel free to contact us directly if you have any specific questions.

What facilities do you offer?

We are situated within a 10-minute walk to Bracknell and Wokingham College and provide childcare for staff and students at the college. We also take children from the wider community, if you are interested please contact us. The nursery has four rooms and a garden area for your child to learn and develop.

What terminology and reasoning are the staff going to use when discussing Coronavirus with the children?

We will focus on washing hands with the children and talk about germs and how they are spread, we will not talk about Coronavirus as such but will be led by the children's questioning and understanding, bearing in mind their age.  We will also use a couple of resources to support this, these include 'I Don't Want to Wash my Hands' by Tony Ross and 'Real Superheroes' which celebrates key workers.
