Our City of Oxford College will be launching the junior academy aimed at 16-year-old rowers with the university’s boat club.
The new programme will offer learners the opportunity to get a BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science course through Activate Learning.
Over a two-year period students will have access to a high-performance rowing environment and top-level rowing coaching on a daily basis, in addition to Brooke’s sports science support.
Richard Spratley, Director of Rowing, said: “This is an innovative partnership that will provide young people with a route into world-class rowing, while at the same time giving them a practical education in a related subject area.
“Oxford Brookes is a globally recognised force in rowing, so this is a really great opportunity for juniors to join our programme two years in advance. Athletes will also be given the opportunity to travel with the senior squad to all major races in the UK and abroad, in addition to trialling for the British junior team.”
