ATG Training delivers their first Cytech assessments in Scotland

23 January 2018

Cycle mechanics across Scotland and northern England passed with flying colours when ATG Training recently toured the country, running a series of in-store and on-site assessment days for Cytech technical one and Cytech technical two. This is the first time the ATG roadshow has visited bike shops in Scotland and was such a success that the team are returning soon, as well as planning for a similar tour in Northern Ireland.

Cytech technical qualifications encompass the basics of cycle mechanics right through to dealing with the most advanced and high-tech components and parts. The “assessment only” package gives employers the flexibility to offer their staff an industry recognised qualification without the need to attend a full training course. As well as running assessment days at the training centres, ATG can offer in-store assessment days throughout the UK.

Biketrax and Leith Cycles in Pitlochry, Decathlon Braehead, Highland Bikes in North Ballachulish, Billy Bilsland Cycles in Carlisle and Cyclewise Whinlatter all saw in-store staff complete the assessment for Cytech technical two. All learners passed their assessments with flying colours, gaining a qualification to certify the extremely high level of competence and experience being seen in all locations visited.

Suzanne Read, who was the assessor for the week said, 'It was a hard week, long days and lots of driving, but made enjoyable by seeing the passion and excellent capability of the mechanics being assessed. An honour to have spent time with some great folks and to be able to issue their Cytech technical two awards in recognition of their hard work and knowledge. I am looking forward to returning again to Scotland and meeting other passionate and capable fellow cycle mechanics.'

ATG trainers had some fantastic feedback from the learners across the week:

“Friendly and positive assessor, felt very comfortable and not under too much pressure. 10/10!” – Stephen Gibson, Biketrax, Technical two assessment.

“Assessor was able to provide clear and precise explanations regarding the assessment. Provided an easy going, approachable and professional atmosphere.” – Greg Walker, Biketrax, Technical two assessment

“Very encouraging assessor. Gave me the confidence to use the skills I have. Plenty of feedback on technique with some useful tips. Thanks for coming up to us!” – Richard Dowsett, Leith Cycle Co. Technical two assessment

“Enjoyed the day. Learned more to carry me forward, many thanks.” – Owen Goodfellow, Highland Bikes, Technical two Assessment

“Suzanne was very knowledgeable and informative throughout the assessment which put me at ease and was able to work to the standard I usually would without feeling under pressure.” – Barry Wilson, Billy Bilsland Cycles, Technical two assessment

Following this success ATG Training will be running another assessment only package across Scotland in the coming months, as well as travelling to Northern Ireland in February to undertake a similar series of assessments. If this is of interest please get in touch with ATG Training on 01926 674 995, or email Bal or Tiernon on

ATG are also contemplating similar assessment only opportunities for Wales, Northern England and the South West in addition to the assessments that their team of area-based trainers already offer throughout England.
