With a nomination for The High Sheriff of Oxfordshire Young Engineer Awards 2018 under his belt, Thomas Edwards is looking forward to a career in aeronautical engineering.
Thomas, who studies at Activate Learning’s Technology Campus at Blackbird Leys, was nominated by his teacher, who commended him for always “smiling, talking, and being outwardly positive about all things, especially engineering.”
Thomas says: “There are many things I’ve enjoyed about the course. I like that I am able to use different machining processes thanks to lathes and milling machines being in the workshop. This gave me experience on some processes that I might do in the future.
“The nomination (for The High Sheriff of Oxfordshire Young Engineer Awards 2018) meant a lot to me as they know I’ve been trying my hardest to get the best possible grades and it was something different that could help in the future when applying for jobs.“
After completing his final year at college, and inspired by his work experience placement at BMW, Thomas hopes to complete a sandwich year in industry before studying for a degree.
