English as a Foreign Language (EFL) + Exam Preparation

For English-language learners interested in taking exams, such as IELTS, SELT, Cambridge First, CAE and CPE.

These part-time courses can prepare you for exams such as:

  • Cambridge English First (CFE)
  • Cambridge English: Preliminary
  • Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE)
  • Cambridge Proficiency in English (CPE)
  • Trintiy College London Secure English Language Testing (SELT)
  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

On this course, you will study English for at least two hours a week for 10 weeks to prepare for the exam of your choice.
Activate Learning is not a test centre, but we will help you book your exam at an official centre.

Exam costs are not included in this course’s fee.

What I'll learn

You will learn:

  • effective strategies for the exam of your choice
  • correct English pronunciation
  • accurate spoken English for formal and informal situations
  • English grammar  
  • vocabulary and phrases used by native speakers 
  • how to write reports, letters and articles
  • study skills

How I'll learn

You will:

  • take practice exams
  • improve your general English using authentic roleplays
  • work in pairs or small groups to improve your spoken fluency, accuracy and pronunciation
  • get scores and feedback from your teacher on your homework

  • Virtual Learning Environments

 

How I'll be assessed

You will sit practice exams that will be scored.

You will also get feedback from your teacher on practice exam results and homework.

Entry Requirements

You must be 16 years old or over to study on this course.

You must be able to study in the college for at least two hours per week. 

The maximum class size is 25 students. 

To join this course, you must speak with a member of the teaching team first. They will check that this is the right course for you. 

When you first come to the college, you will need to bring:

  • your passport, EU ID card, valid visa or residency permit
  • your spouse’s/relative’s passport, if you entered the UK to join a spouse or relative
  • any proof of any benefits, such as Job Seeker’s Allowance or Employment and Support Allowance (if relevant to you). You may not need to pay fees  

There may be additional fees for this course, such as school trips, textbooks or exam costs. Please contact the college for further details.
