This course is for anyone who wants to become a teaching assistant in primary, secondary or special needs school, or is working in a role that supports pupils’ learning.

The CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (QCF) is for anyone who wants to become a teaching assistant in primary, secondary or special needs school, or is working in a role that supports pupils’ learning. It provides an in-depth understanding of the knowledge and skills required when working directly with children or young people in primary, secondary or special schools. Please note that you must be at least 19 at the start of the course. Dependent on previous experience, qualifications and current employment, some students may be able to join this programme after the start date. What I'll learn

You learn all aspects of specialist support, including:

  • planning, delivering, and reviewing assessment strategies to support learning alongside the teacher
  • bilingual and special needs support
  • personal development
  • reflective practice

 

 

How I'll learn

There are mandatory and optional units in this qualification.

MANDATORY UNITS

  • child and young person development
  • safeguarding the welfare of children and young people
  • communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults
  • equality, diversity and inclusion in work with children and young people
  • help improve own and team practice in schools
  • maintain and support relationships with children and young people
  • support children and young people’s health and safety
  • support children and young people’s positive behaviour
  • support learning activities


OPTIONAL UNITS

  • schools as organisations
  • provide displays in schools or
  • support children with disabilities, special educational needs

 

How I'll be assessed

You are assessed by your tutor or assessor using a range of methods. This could include direct observation in the workplace, a portfolio of evidence, written assignments or a task set by CACHE (Council for Awards in Care, Health and Education)

Practical qualification of the course requires you to do a work placement under the direction of a mentor/teacher/senior teaching assistant 2 days a week. You can find out more about this when you apply.

On successful completion, which requires 30 credits, you gain: CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (QCF).

 

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs at grade 3 (D) which must include maths and English, or functional skills Level 2 maths and English.

Mature students without these grades will be assessed at the discretion of the tutor.

Please note that you must be at least 19 at the start of the course.
