Our course prepares you for employment in places such as leisure centres, fitness studios and retail sports outlets.

Whether it’s supporting elite athletes to reach their full potential, or introducing sport to a young person for the first time, with a career in sports you can play an important role in leading people to a healthy lifestyle. This course will also support you to develop the leadership, organisation and communication skills that are essential for a career in sports and leisure.

If you choose this pathway, you will combine the study of anatomy, physiology and psychology with biometrics, exercise, health and lifestyle. In addition, you will develop skills in fitness testing and training, sport and exercise massage, sports injuries and coaching.

If a career in fitness is for you, you could make an impact on the lives of people of all ages and walks of life. You will learn how to to be an approachable and effective motivator; encouraging people to reach their fitness goals, creating personalised exercise programmes, giving advice on healthy living, and carrying out fitness assessments.

Our network of employer partnerships means, whichever programme you choose, you will get practical experience in the sports, exercise science, fitness and therapy sectors throughout your time at college.

You will learn about a range of subjects linked to sport, such as nutrition for sport performance, practical sport, sport psychology, health and safety and injuries, fitness for sport performance and the body in sport.

This course will help you to develop the leadership, organisation and communication skills that are essential in the leisure industry.

The BTEC Sport Level 2 Diploma is a nationally-recognised qualification which is equivalent to four GCSEs at grades 4–9 (A* to C).

Extra qualifications you can achieve include NGB coaching sport leaders and first aid (Level 1) and volunteering (Level 2). You will also study functional skills and will have the opportunity to retake your GCSEs in maths or English.

You will be assessed continuously throughout the programme and will be given ongoing feedback.

Your assessments will be written, practical and verbal and give you every opportunity to achieve the maximum grade available.

Some of the additional qualifications may be assessed through theory and practical examinations.

You need to have 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or above including English and Maths or have completed the level 1 Award in Sport
