Bracknell and Wokingham College is proud to be entering a 4th year working with Playmaker Basketball Academy to deliver the Bracknell and Wokingham College Basketball Academy.

The academy is designed for Under 19 competitive players who aspire to play basketball at a professional or semi-professional level or build a career in the sports sector.

You will be held to high standards as a student-athlete: behavioural, academic, and physical. We take pride in supporting the development and growth of the sporting industry’s future leaders, and you will need to play your role in achieving these aspirations.

Please note: This course is an enrichment element of the programme that you are applying to/are enrolled on. You cannot apply for this as a stand-alone programme, but it can be taken alongside any of our full-time Level 2 courses.

You will be required to purchase kit. See the Additional Information section.

Applicants will have the opportunity to join the Basketball Academy alongside any full-time Level 2 programme. Your timetable table will also include specific tutorials for career readiness, personal development, and English and maths, where applicable, working towards a GCSE Grade 4.

Work Experience: All students will be required to complete 60 hours of meaningful work experience, which the college will support.

Basketball Academy students will have the opportunity to complete work experience with the academy and clubs linked to the program. These placements would be linked to the basketball industry, such as coaching, refereeing, marketing, social media, and game day management.

The academy currently has two teams with 15 places per team. The first team will play in the CBL Tier 1, whilst the second team will play in the AOC (Association of Colleges) South regional basketball league.

As well as playing for the Basketball Academy, players will have the opportunity to take part in Under 18 Premier, Under 18 Conference, National League Division 3 Men, or Wessex League Men’s basketball.

Elite players will also be involved in the European Youth Basketball League (EYBL) with local club Bracknell Cobras. This is an opportunity to play against some of the best Under 19 Teams in Europe. During 2022-23 this included trips to Latvia, Spain, and Estonia.
