Approved by the University of Northampton and delivered by Activate Learning at City of Oxford College, this programme reflects the changes in national police recruitment. From 2020 all Police Constables will need a degree before they can be confirmed in post. The degree aims to give graduates the skills that they will need to pursue a career in the law and criminal justice sector.

This programme builds on the expertise of Activate Learning who have provided policing higher education qualifications for the past five years and is an exciting development in response to changes in the sector, as policing moves to becoming a graduate profession.

What I'll learn

This degree will give you an insight into legislation, conducting investigations and the criminal justice system in the United Kingdom.

We are dedicated to giving you the skills that you will you need to pursue a career in Law enforcement.

You will be given the opportunity to join the Special Constabulary or volunteer with the Police in your second year, which will allow you to obtain operational training.

In your final year, you will deepen your understanding of policing, whilst being able to specialise in areas such as Cyber Crime and policing on the international stage.

You will gain a BA (Hons) Policing accredited by the University of Northampton (subject to validation). Graduates are likely to find employment as police officers or in the wider police service, performing support roles.  You could also pursue careers as officers in the armed forces, the security services, or in a research role.

 

How I'll learn

We are dedicated to giving you the skills that you will you need to pursue a career in Law enforcement.

You will progress from theoretical learning covering equality and diversity, investigating a crime scene, professional development and legislation in Stage one to more practical sessions in later stages of the course.  

You will be given the opportunity to join the Special Constabulary or volunteer with the Police in your second year, which will allow you to obtain operational training.

Entry Requirements

Typical offers would be BCC at A-level or DMM at BTEC and GCSE Maths and English language at C (4) or above. We do not accept equivalencies (e.g. Functional skills).

If you have qualifications preceding GCSEs and do not have English and Maths GCSE at grade C (4), then we will consider your application on an individual basis.

If English is not your first language, you will need to demonstrate that you can meet the minimum English language requirement of IELTS 6.5 minimum all categories (or equivalent).
