The course will enable learners to gain and extend both technical and creative skills in photography. Learners will research current and historical photographers' work and there will be detailed practical learning around both location and studio-based image making. You will also gain a basic understanding of the legislation relevant to photographic practice, including copyright, and photographers’ rights.
This delivery consists of 3 units, 2 mandatory core units:
- Explore photographic equipment, techniques, materials and resources
- Develop and adapt photographic ideas
And one unit chosen from the following optional units:
- Studio photography
- Location photography
How I'll learn
You will attend weekly sessions, working through a series of practical tasks and techniques, building on each new skill. You will create a broad portfolio of work, some of which is submitted halfway through (for formative assessment) and again for your final assessment. There is no formal examination, but you will have small amounts of homework to complete throughout the course and will use this along with visual evidence to develop a paper-based portfolio of evidence to accompany your images.
Studio-based teaching, lectures, offsite and gallery visits, demonstrations, workshops, critiques, tutorials and independent learning through set assignment briefs and tasks.
