This advanced Digital Photography course is great for people who already have some knowledge of digital photography and who are already using their cameras off auto.

You will learn to build on the basic operations of a Digital SLR camera (and mirrorless, see below for details), along with developing techniques to produce individual and creative outcomes.

We will talk about light and composition, and photographing on manual mode. If you would like to use a mirrorless camera, please ensure that you can turn off auto settings (Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, Manual) and you can set your ISO and White balance manually, for example.

Some simple post-processing techniques will also be covered.

What I'll learn

This course provides no formal qualification but will enable you to either develop your personal use of a DSLR camera or to progress on to any of the following courses:

  • Analogue Photography
  • Advanced Creative Photography
  • Photoshop for Beginners
  • Bookbinding for Beginners
  • or a full-time photography course at college

Alongside the other evening courses, this course will aid the production of a comprehensive portfolio of work.

How I'll learn

You will learn in our well-equipped classrooms and facilities, supported by an industry-experienced tutor, working individually and in a small group.

The emphasis of these courses is on developing a creative use of your camera.

Courses will involve some optional homework to fully benefit from the teaching.

Entry Requirements

A Digital SLR camera is essential.

Ideally, we would like you to have completed of the Beginners Photography course, or at least have an ability to shoot confidently in manual mode.

Access to a computer and printer is useful.
