The UAL Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production and Technology is a two-year course and is designed to provide you with a broad knowledge base, as well as helping you to develop skills in video, audio and photography in preparation for progression to a higher education course or a career within the industry.

Whilst exploring aspects of the industry areas such as video and audio production and design. You will cover the foundation skills needed for developing, researching, making and evaluating a range of different types of media.

You’ll engage in learning not just about the creative industry but undertake practical workshops with skilled professionals developing your video production and design skills.

You will use a range of industry standard software throughout the course. You will primarily use Adobe software (Premiere Pro, Audition, After Effects and Photoshop, and Illustrator).

Develop your skills further with industry-grade kit! Explore cameras, lighting, and green-screen work to produce high-quality concepts/digital artwork.

In Year 1, you will be introduced to the fundamentals of the media and design industry, develop your research skills, and build on your art and video production, editing, and design skills. Work on projects that allow you to explore and develop your creative skills until the Final Major Project at the end of the year. 

Upon successful completion of Year 1, you will be invited to push the skills and techniques you have learned even further in Year 2. You will also have the chance to work from industry-standard briefs, which will teach you how to produce content for professional clients and begin developing your professional skills and portfolio.

Throughout the two years, you will also be offered a range of work experience opportunities with real clients.

You’ll learn a range of digital design skills, as well as becoming familiar with relevant software. These design skills include digital animation and website design, as well as DVD menu authoring.

In addition, there is also a video production element of the course in which you will learn to research, plan and produce a range of video productions, including a music video and a short drama. Theoretical analysis informs all areas of your practical work as well as giving an insight into how media institutions perceive audiences and construct products for particular markets.

In the first year of this course, you will study for the Diploma. Once that Diploma is successfully achieved, you will be invited to continue on to complete the full Extended Diploma in the second year of the course.

You will have full access to the media centre which consists of a television studio, digital video and sound editing equipment, a radio studio and computing facilities. All students follow a functional skills programme. You work with specialist tutors on live practical projects. You are offered the opportunity to gain professional experience working with a variety of clients to boost your CV.

This course is 100% coursework which means there are no exams. You need to be well organised throughout the year. You also need to enjoy working as part of a team and sharing your views.

You need to have 4 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above including English and maths, with a keen interest and evidence in the subject (example of work).
