The IT industry is constantly evolving and developing in new and innovative ways. This Diploma will provide you with a broad introduction to the world of IT, allowing you to develop your knowledge and understanding of the contribution technology makes to modern life.
You will develop your knowledge and skills in a creative and enjoyable way, combining academic learning with hands-on experience. This course offers students the opportunity to study a range of subjects including software design, computer hardware, databases, networking and web development.
You will also develop your English, maths and ICT skills to help you to complete your course work and prepare for further study or employment.
What I'll learn
Get ready for work in the IT and business sectors with this information and communications technology qualification. You will study a number of modules and in addition you will develop your functional skills in English and maths.
How I'll learn
You learn by a mixture of practical activities and individual research and individual and group work. The course team is always looking at introducing you to experts in the taught fields and you will need to attend a work experience placement in the second half of the year.
How I'll be assessed
All units are assessed via a portfolio of coursework. Functional skills require you to sit an exam. Students on the course are required to improve on their maths or English at GCSE level so you will be asked to re-sit at least one of those subjects during the college year.
You need four GCSEs at grade D, including English language and maths. You also need to demonstrate the appropriate level of literacy and numeracy in the initial assessment.
