Learn to succeed in the fast-paced hospitality industry, with practical lessons in our fully equipped training kitchen and gain real-life experience catering and hosting college events. This is a practical, work-related course which introduces you to the skills needed for the kitchen as well as the range of opportunities available throughout the hospitality industry.

BTEC Level 1 qualifications are designed to enhance learners’ work and life skills
in a range of vocational contexts. They are appropriate for a diverse range of learners including:

  • 14–19-year-old learners
  • adults returning to study
  • those seeking to develop greater independence
  • those who have not yet achieved accredited qualifications
  • those with specific learning needs.

What I'll learn

On this introductory practical course you may study some of the following units:

  • Introduction to the hospitality industry
  • Customer service in the hospitality industry 
  • Food service 
  • Introduction to healthy eating
  • Basic food preparation and cooking 
  • Preparing and serving drinks
  • Introduction to food commodities 

 

How I'll learn

You learn primarily through practical sessions, though there are theory sessions too.

 

How I'll be assessed

Assessment of your practical skills is continuous and we test your theoretical knowledge too. Your tutor monitors your progress and offers advice and guidance so you achieve the most from your study.
