Healthcare Assistant Practitioner Level 5 Diploma

This diploma is aimed at all assistant practitioners or those wishing to become assistant practitioners. Candidates may also be in other health related roles. You will need to attend college one day per week.

The Healthcare Assistant Practitioner Level 5 Diploma focuses on consolidation of learning and on embedding consistently good practice in core areas, as well as the development of additional knowledge and skills. It is only available to those aged 19 and over.

What I'll learn

Mandatory units include:

  • Understand safeguarding of children and young people (for those working in the adult sector)
  •  Promote professional development
  •  Work in partnership in health and social care or children and young people’s settings
  • The structure, organisation and function of the human body 
  • Use and develop systems that promote communication
  • Champion equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Lead and manage infection prevention and control within the work setting
  • Develop health and safety and risk management policies, procedures and practices in health and social care or children and young people’s settings
  • Manage quality in health and social care or children and young people's setting
  • Undertake a research project within services for health and social care or children and young people
  • Conduct and support others in the assessment of individuals health and wellbeing 
  • Promote effective nutrition and fluid balance
  • The principles and philosophy of healthcare
  • Lifespan developments and healthcare needs
  • Understand the principles and application of physiological measurements

Plus one of the following units:

  • Understand the principles, theories and concepts related to leading and developing a work team in a healthcare environment
  • Lead and manage a team within a health and social care or children and young people’s setting

 

 

How I'll learn

You will learn about a variety of areas directly relevant to the role, including assessing patients, understanding health principles and effective team working.

How I'll be assessed

You will be assessed through written assignments, and your competency in your work practice.

 

Entry Requirements

You need to be employed and working in a health and/or social care setting.

You can pay for this course, if eligible, using a 19+ Advanced Learner Loan. The loans are easy to apply for and are not dependent on your household income.

To be eligible to apply, you need to:

  • Be aged 19 or over at the start of your course
  • Have lived in the UK, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man for three years
