This programme is for those who wish to enter the media make-up industry. The course focuses on make-up, body art, hair styling, client care and consultation.

This course is ideal for learners who wish to progress into or develop skills in carrying out fashion, theatre and media make up.  The course covers prosthetic work as well as skin camouflage and casualty make up.

What I'll learn

You will develop fundamental skills in body art, airbrushing, further make up techniques, basic applications of prosthetics and bald caps, casualty type wounds, how to cover scars and tattoos with camouflage make up and basic hairdressing skills to be able to create hairstyles to complement the make up.  You will also gain independent study, team work, research and planning skills. On completion you will achieve the VTCT Level 3 Diploma In Fashion, Theatre, Media Hair and Make up Studies.


How I'll learn

You will learn to style and dress hair using a variety of techniques, how to apply prosthetic pieces and bald caps, design and apply body art, fashion and photographic make up, media make up, camouflage make up, applying airbrush make up to the face. Your final skills will be used to create images based on themes.

 The course combines practical and theory with research in a realistic working environment.  You will begin by working on each other and progress to working on models.

 Assessment methods: Some units have written exam. You will also build up a portfolio of photographic evidence as the course progresses.  You will plan and hold events such as a photo shoot, fashion catwalk and competitions.


How I'll be assessed

The qualification is assessed through a portfolio of evidence, including practical demonstrations and theory based case studies. There will be a number of practically examined observations and theory exams to complete the course.


Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs grade D (including English & maths) and/or a completed Level 1 Award  If you are interested in a Level 2 programme and have alternative qualifications you would like us to consider please contact us with your details to discuss further. Applicants will be invited to attend an interview and complete an internal assessment. All students will have their literacy and numeracy needs supported within the programme. A good school report or reference and a successful interview are also required.

It is essential to purchase personal equipment and salon work wear costing £600 approx.
