Print Page

Ready for a career in beauty? Our Level 1 course will give you an introduction to performing effective beauty treatments.

You will attend college full-time, taking part in practical salon and classroom sessions to gain hands-on experience.

Our career pathways show you a typical route through the various stages of learning, what you will learn along the way and the careers these programmes could lead onto.

What I'll learn

The course is divided into ten subjects to include practical units in skin care, face painting, basic hand care and manicure. You will be required to complete a series of tasks to accompany each of the practical units in order to be successful in this programme. Functional skills in English, maths and ICT will be part of your timetable and will enable you to progress onto Level 2 Beauty Therapy. You will have a tutor throughout your course to support you and make sure that you are on track to complete your qualification.

How I'll learn

You will watch demonstrations of all of your treatments and then practice on a partner. Teaching and learning methods will be a mix of: theory, self directed study, research and practical client sessions. You will begin by working on each other and progress to models.

All of your theory classes will be taught with the aid of a work pack and may also include research whilst in class. The majority of tasks will be completed whilst in class so that you can have help and support in understanding what is required. All work packs and hand outs will be put onto our virtual learning site Moodle so that you are able to download any information needed.

How I'll be assessed

One unit has a theory exam. A portfolio of evidence will be built up during the course and practical observations of your treatments learnt. You will also get to create and design your own hair and beauty image, based on a theme chosen by you. All practical assessments will be carried out on the general public as well as friends.

Entry Requirements

No formal entry requirements. A good standard of English. It would be beneficial for learners to have a creative ability with clear communication skills and knowledge of science and/or PE theory (not essential).

A college navy uniform and Level 1 kit is essential to purchase prior to the course starting (details to be given at interview).
