Print Page

This pathway is for young people who want to explore a career in Travel and Tourism through a full-time and supported college course.

These pathways are for young people who would benefit from starting at an entry level and may need support with English, Maths, ICT and personal development.

What I'll learn

This course will give you an introduction to travel and tourism and time to think about your future career. We arrange for support from our college Careers Advisers who are there to help you choose your next step.

The course will introduce you to the travel and tourism industries and you will study a range of topics including UK and European destinations, planning visits and customer service. Including the skills needed to start a career in the travel industry. Literacy, numeracy and IT will be developed alongside the vocational subject knowledge.  These skills are necessary for all aspects of life and essential if you want to progress in study and work.

You also gain wider personal development skills vital for success in further study or employment. They include self-confidence, working with others, taking responsibility and time management. By the end of the course you will have benefited from a valuable insight in future study or careers open to you.

How I'll learn

You will take part in practical activities and assessment is continuous rather than by exam. There are numerous starting points throughout the year.

How I'll be assessed

You will be assessed through creating a folder of evidence for each subject. You will be assessed at a level that suits you. Functional skills and GCSE maths and English will be assessed through external examinations.

You will gain a Vocational Certificate in Learning, Employability and Progression on completion of your studies.

On successful completion of the course, you may move on to a full-time Level 2 course, an apprenticeship or employment.

Entry Requirements

You do not need qualifications to join these pathways. However, you will need a successful interview with a member of the teaching team to show your commitment to full time study and your interest in the subject.

You need a basic level of literacy and numeracy to apply for this course. The commitment to work towards improving English and maths is required for this programme. Both Functional skill and GCSE re-sits are offered. We will also expect a satisfactory school report.

As part of your interview we will assess your levels of English and maths and advise you of the most appropriate level to study.
