Foundation: Public Services Pathway

Explore your options for future employment with this Level 1 Foundation programme in Public Services.

This programme will help to develop your teamwork skills and fitness. The course provides the knowledge and understanding to enable you to take up effective employment in the areas of public services.

With the Foundation Pathway in Public Services, you can kickstart a career in this exciting sector as you learn the skills needed to progress. You will also be given the opportunity to gain English, Maths and IT qualifications alongside the programme.

On completion of the course, you can progress to a higher-level study programme at college, or onto an apprenticeship. We can give you advice and information to help you plan your next step, whether you would like to study another course in the college or somewhere else, or are looking to enter employment.

We will provide you with the opportunity to develop vital employability and independence skills through our learning companies. Our partnerships with external organisations and employers are central to giving you the tools you need to have a successful future.

You will study the purpose, role and responsibilities of our uniformed public services and test your teamwork skills in the fitness, outdoor and adventurous skills modules.

You will study topics, including:

  • Health and well-being
  • Teamwork and leadership skills
  • First aid
  • Sport and exercise

The teaching team will engage your leaning in many different ways. Types of learning activities will consist of group work, practical activities, putting learning into practice and visits. Visits are also made by uniformed public personnel to offer first-hand experiences.

You will do practical lessons relating to map reading and outdoor activities, sports, and first aid.

Visits and trips are an integral part of the course and carry an additional cost payable when you start.

The course is based on continual assessment with workbooks.

The teaching team will engage your leaning in many different ways.

The only entry requirement is that you have a successful interview with a member of the course team in order to ensure that we can fully meet your needs

We are looking for young people with an enthusiasm to learn and a desire to make progress. We want applicants to actively take part in keep warm activities set by teachers before starting in September
