Oxford City Football Club, City of Oxford College and Ignite Sport UK have been delivering football and education programmes together for over 10 years.
The Football Academy provides a professional structure and offers the aspiring football player a comprehensive education, training and playing schedule.
The aim of the Academy is to deliver a high quality football education programme and to nurture the players’ talent to maximum potential. Players will receive action plans, targets, support and expert input to assist in developing their game.
An expert team of specialists support the players’ needs including physiotherapists, sports scientists, strength & conditioning coaches and sports psychologists.
Oxford City FC have in excess of 40 teams competing for them and Academy players have the opportunity to represent the club throughout the programme.
The Academy is available to UK players and overseas players with flexible education programmes to suit individual needs.
What I'll learn
You study 18 modules over the two years including:
- assessing risks
- fitness testing and training exercise
- health and lifestyle
- injuries massage
- instructing physical activity
- organising sport
- physiology for fitness
- practical team/individual sport analysis of sport performance leadershipin sport
- principles of anatomy and physiology
- sport as a business
- sports development
- work experience
You will also improve the broader skills vital for success in further study or employment, including:
- speaking in front of others
- working with others
- taking responsibility
- managing your time
By the end of the course you will have benefited from a valuable insight into future careers open to you.
How I'll learn
The structure of this football diploma is two stages over two years and you need to successfully complete stage one to progress to stage two.
You will complete 18 units for the Football Level 3 Extended Diploma while completing a portfolio of evidence to gain the NVQ Level 2 component of the qualification.
Within your full-time timetable, you will also complete a minimum of 12 hours per week of professional coaching and/or football-related activities. This includes participating in one of our representative teams.
This is a combination of Football and Learning. Successful learners can progress to the Activate Learning Degree in Sports Coaching, fitness & Rehabilitation programme or their pathway to employment.
Match day is Wednesday and you should be prepared for early departure and late return for some fixtures.
How I'll be assessed
Individual learning targets are set each term and you receive regular feedback on your progress in meeting these targets.
Formal assessment is through assignments projects presentations and practical assessments which are set at regular intervals throughout the course.
The functional skills in English maths or ICT is assessed by an external exam.
Five or more GCSEs grades 4 (C) or above including English and maths or a BTEC level 2 Diploma at grade Merit or Distinction plus GCSE grade 4 (C) or above or Functional Skills at level 2 in English and maths
