The Electrical Installation Level 3 qualification is designed for students progressing from the Level 2 programme. The course provides students with the knowledge, skills and understanding required to gain employment within the industry.

This programme will suit you if you have a good understanding of basic electro technical principals and want to develop your skills. The Level 3 qualification is designed for students progressing from the Level 2 qualification. 

This programme has a large practical element to give you the experience and skills required by the industry including installation, inspection and testing of electrical circuits and systems. This is the best route for those who want to work as electricians but who cannot find an apprenticeship.

When you have successfully completed this qualification, you will be at an improver/ Electrician's mate level.

What I'll learn

You will learn about topics including:

  • understanding the fundamental principals and requirements of environmental technology systems
  • principles of electrical science
  • electrical Installation, fault diagnosis and rectification
  • electrical installations, inspect, testing and commissioning


How I'll learn

This is an advanced qualification that tests both practical and knowledge-based skills in a realistic working environment. Attendance of 100% is necessary to complete this course.



How I'll be assessed

During the first few weeks, initial assessments will take place to make sure you and the level of work are suitably matched. There will be written assignments and online exams for each of the units. Further assessment is by completing a number of major practical assignments in the college’s electrical workshops. They are carried out under exam conditions.


Entry Requirements

You will need five GCSEs at grade A*- C or 9-4 (or equivalent), including English language and maths or above or Merit grade in a BTEC Level 2 diploma with functional skills at Level 2.
