Setting the table for a gathering sets the tone of the occasion. Add your unique personal touch to your table with your own handmade table runner.

Enjoy experimenting with several screen-printing methods using your own design.

You will have the opportunity to expose and create your own pattern to put on to a screen and then print it on to fabric to craft into a table runner.

This course will introduce you to a range of textile techniques which can be built upon each week creating samples and your own designs.

At the end of this course you will have a self-created and designed table runner or piece of fabric!

You will also gain enhanced knowledge and understanding of how the process of silk screen printing works and how several colours and patterns can be added and/or developed.

What I'll learn

You will learn a variety of techniques such as:

  • how to experiment with stencils and create imagery ready for screen
  • how to use negatives and positives of images
  • the process of transferring your stencil design to screen
  • how to layer up and create surface textures onto fabric
  • apply printing ink to several different fabrics and block out areas of the screen for applying more than one image or colour

How I'll learn

Teaching methods include:

  • Formal instruction
  • Discussion
  • Individual tuition
  • Practical demonstration
  • Practical experience

Furthermore, you will get the opportunity to develop your skills according to your own specific needs.

Entry Requirements

All levels are welcome! This course is suitable for complete beginners and/or more experienced printers that would like to push themselves in a more artistic way.

Photoshop/photography skills would benefit you if you’d like to create something ultra specific but they are not essential as the tutor can support on this.

You should also be able to follow simple verbal instruction that will support the session and be open to group discussions.

Basic materials for this course will be provided.

However, we do advise you to bring an apron and any specific finishings you may like, for example thread colour.

There will be 2 meters of Caligo per person available. However, if you have a specific fabric in mind for your final print, we advise you to bring your own to the length you need.

Please bring in pictures or images for inspiration.
