This 5-week course is a great introduction to machine sewing and making clothes for beginners.

If you are looking to start sewing with a machine but have no experience, then this course is perfect for you.

Our career pathways show you a typical route through the various stages of learning, what you will learn along the way and the careers these programmes could lead onto.

What I'll learn

By the end of this course you will have completed a simple garment, a paper pattern and embedded it onto a fabric of your choice.   This should give you the confidence to start basic machine sewing independently.

How I'll learn

You will learn through practical sessions including: key sewing techniques, simple garment construction skills and how to work with easy fabrics.

How I'll be assessed

There are no formal assessments on this course.

Entry Requirements

You will need a basic sewing kit consisting of: Fabric scissors, small scissors, pins, thread, needles, tape measure & un-picker.

You will be provided with 1.5 meters of Calico. Calico is a plain-woven textile made from unbleached and often not fully processed cotton. The cost of Calico is included in your fee.   You will need to purchase 2m of your own woven fabric and a pattern for this course.  This course will take place on five consecutive Thursday evenings from 6 pm until 8 pm.
