Printmaking: The Basic Techniques

This course is a fantastic and informative introduction to work in a fully equipped print studio with support and advice from our experienced print tutor.

This is an extremely exciting process, which leads to original ways of putting ideas together finding an identity, style and technique suited to your way of working.

Find out more about the possibilities of working with this traditional craft! Explore a variety of techniques and develop your printmaking knowledge. 

Printmaking: The Basic Techniques does not run during half term.

What I'll learn

The course will cover a range of traditional and non-traditional printmaking techniques including many of the following:

  • drypoint
  • monoprint
  • using overlays
  • screenprinting stencils and masks
  • registering prints
  • mixed-media printing
  • overprinting and layering
  • transparenciescolour and black and white
  • using Chine-coll√©
  • using the presses and equipment

You do not need to have previous experience, but if you do, you can build on what you already know.

Some students might enjoy the challenge of inventing a new technique!

Entry Requirements

All you need is some level of curiosity about the process and an open mind.

No existing skills needed, all can be taught. 

Please bear in mind we will be getting inky, so wear old clothes and closed-toe shoes for your safety.

If you have ideas for your own design or drawings you’d like to use bring them along!
