Enjoy being guided through inspirational and experimental printing methods on fabric.

You'll try a variety of techniques including screen-printing and Batik that will enliven your compositions, a great way to expand your image making practice and your portfolio.

All levels welcome.

Printmaking on Fabric runs for five consecutive Thursdays from 6:30–9pm.

What I'll learn

By the end of this course you should be able to:

  • create patterns for screeprinting composition
  • coat the fabric screen with photo sensitive emulsion
  • expose art work onto the screen
  • manipulate images and create art work to put on to the screen
  • add a wax resist employing a tjanting tool or by painting wax directly on to the fabric
  • print through the screen using a squeegee to make printed designs
  • silkscreen print in a combination of different ways, and in an arrangement of colours

 

How I'll learn

Demonstrations will be given to enable you to fully understand and master the screen-printing technique process on fabric as well as creating hand-produced Batik designs, by adding a wax resist employing a tjanting tool or by painting wax directly on to the fabric. 

Instructions will be given on how to use the equipment. No previous experience is required. 
 

 

How I'll be assessed

There are no formal assessments on this course.

 

Entry Requirements

All basic materials are provided.

You should bring to the first class, sources of imagery to be used for reference / visual inspiration (sketches, magazine cutting, on-going work etc.) as a way in to starting personal projects.
