According to research by the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs, there is a need for around 1,000 new apprentices in classic vehicle restoration across the UK.
This course, based at Banbury and Bicester College, in partnership with Bicester Heritage, is designed to give you a broad base of knowledge and experience to prepare you for working within the industry and focuses on developing the particular skills and knowledge required for older ‘classic’ vehicles.
Apprenticeship, VocationalQualifications explained
07 Sep 2020
You will develop the knowledge and skills required to carry out many tasks related to motor vehicle restoration, maintenance and repair. You will also be given an insight into the profession and valuable insight into future careers open to you.
On successful completion of the course you can progress to a more advanced apprenticeship or can progress within the workplace into related employment.
You will spend 1-2 days a week in college participating in classroom and practical-based sessions. The other 3-4 days will be spent in the workplace, putting what you have learned into practice.
You will be expected to build a portfolio with evidence you have collected in the workplace.
An assessor will visit your workplace to observe your working practices. All functional skills (English and maths) will be delivered at college within your day release.
This programme is very specialised, so it attracts all the right people and we learn from each other. The course is not too long so it gives me time for independent learning and to learn from my own classic car."
Entry requirements will be confirmed on application and will depend on experience within the sector, as well as formal qualifications.
All applicants will be called in to sit an initial assessment to ensure that you are at the correct level of learning. You will then be invited into college for an interview with a member of the teaching team.
