Get an introduction to working with young children and the early years environment with the Exploring Service to the Public Sectors Level 1 Diploma.

The Exploring Service to the Public Sectors Level 1 Diploma aims to develop learners’ knowledge and awareness of health, social care and children’s and young people’s settings.

This programme will develop your ability to work in the health and social care and child care sectors, as you develop a range of skills and personal attributes essential for success in life, learning and work.

What I'll learn

Areas studied include:

  • understand the principles and values in health and social care (adults and children and young people), early years and childcare
  • understand the range of service provision and roles within health and social care (adults and children and young people), early years and childcare
  • introduction to communication in health and social care (adults and children and young people), early years and childcare
  • awareness of protection and safeguarding in health and social care (adults and children and young people), early years and childcare

 

 

How I'll learn

You learn about the care of children play and practical activities growth and development food and nutrition and health and safety. You will develop your basic skills in childcare, education and play work, and gain direct experience of working in an early years setting.

The qualification will be pass or refer and all the assessment criteria for the chosen units must be achieved in order to obtain a pass. The course has approximately 13 hours teacher contact time per week - spread over 3 days.

 

How I'll be assessed

Assessment is through assignment work. You learn through classroom-based activities practical workshops and a supervised placement in the final term.

In the third term you do 15 days of supervised practical work in a childcare setting. The course also gives you the opportunity to improve your literacy numeracy and ICT skills.

 

Entry Requirements

Applicants for a Level 1 programme will normally have:

  • a strong interest in their chosen programme of study
  • the commitment to work towards improving English and Maths as part of the programme
  • the ability to discuss past experiences of education and future ambitions in an interview

Applicants will be invited to attend an interview and complete an internal assessment. All students will have their literacy and numeracy needs supported within the programme.
